Washington Nonprofits COVID-19 Advocacy Update

Nonprofits are vital to society’s wellbeing. From food and shelter to arts and environmental conservation, we believe that all nonprofits offer essential services—services that must be continued safely during the crisis such as food banks and homeless shelters as well as services that must be assisted to resume as soon as it is safe to do so such as schools, museums, community development, and recreation. We have organized a united campaign for all nonprofits. Join us! Federal Advocacy As Congress crafts new rounds of relief packages, we need to raise our voices and tell our Congressional representatives that nonprofits are vital and […]

An Open Letter to Public Officials in Washington State Regarding Coronavirus Response

Dear Public Officials, Thank you for your work to ensure the safety and health of Washington’s residents during the coronavirus pandemic. We are grateful for your leadership and proud to work side by side with you to serve our communities during this difficult time. I am writing to be sure that you are aware of what we are hearing from nonprofits at this time: Nonprofits, particularly service providers, are being called in to adapt quickly to new operating requirements, educate community members, and support vulnerable community members without any new resources. Many nonprofit service providers, such as food banks and […]

Member Spotlight: Three advocacy stories

Every year nonprofit leaders from across Washington come together in Olympia for the Annual Nonprofit Legislative Reception. They often meet with their legislators earlier in the day and then gather at the Governor’s Mansion to mingle with elected officials, connect with peers from across the state, and celebrate the accomplishments of nonprofits. The refreshments are excellent and the company even better. We asked three Washington Nonprofits members at the reception this year to tell us what they want their legislators and community to know about their mission. Here are their mini-member spotlights! The Pierce County AIDS Foundation, through education and […]

Action Alert: Don’t Let The Fundraising Tax Exemption Expire!

Unless you want to collect taxes at your next fundraising gala, please take 3 minutes now to support House Bill 1808.  The nonprofit and library fundraising exemption is set to expire this summer. It provides a tax exemption for nonprofit donors who either purchase or win items from nonprofit fundraising events. This exemption is vital for two reasons: It encourages donors to bid generously at fundraising auctions and participate in raffles without the dampening effect of knowing that a sales or use tax will be placed on their contribution. It avoids the administrative burden to nonprofits having to collect and […]
