Strong nonprofits are vital to healthy communities. To stay strong, nonprofit leaders need opportunities to learn new skills and integrate new ideas into their daily practice. Those who teach nonprofit leaders need to be skilled instructors as much as content experts because nonprofits don’t have time or money to waste. How do we make sure that every workshop nonprofit people attend leaves them ready to take action? How do we make sure that everyone standing at the front of a nonprofit workshop uses techniques based on current learning research? How do we build a community of practice around excellence in learning so that consultants, capacity builders, associations, and others working in the learning space have a way to share ideas?

These are the questions we will explore with Ulrich Boser, author of “Learn Better,” chosen by Amazon as “Best Book” of the year. Boser will talk about what the research says about how we can learn better. We will then have an open discussion tying this research back to the nonprofit sector, exploring that this means for consultants, capacity builders, associations, and funders.

We encourage you to read Learn Better in advance of this conversation.
It is available on Amazon.com and wherever books are sold.

Ulrich Boser is a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress and writes on education. He is the author of The Leap: The Science of Trust and Why It Matters, which Forbes called “recommended reading” and Talking Points Memo described as “both comprehensive and engaging.” He also wrote The Gardner Heist: The True Story of the World’s Largest Art Theft, which became a national best-seller. Boser was the opening keynote speaker at the National Council of Nonprofits conference in Washington DC in June 2017.
